Contrary to popular belief, the group of diverse individuals is not limited to culturally different or foreign born persons. Diversity includes the spectrum of human and cultural differences. Diversity isssues arise from the myriad of differences that people bring with them to the classroom or work place. Diversity includes the following: ethnicity, racial background, economic status, physical and mental abilities, and the aspects of culture that includes language, heritage, personal behaviors and self identifications. In our quest to effect productive workplace and classroom environments, we must become sensitive to the ideas, activities, and communications which can hinder or enhance successful adaptation to diversity issues.
